Studio Soiree Masquerade Performance

I might not be as advanced physically in pole as most of my pole sisters but I am far more advanced than all of them in the art of choreography, imagination, creating new pole tricks, and coming up with new or fun combos to try in class.
So, I was really excited to help my advanced instructor, Rina, choreograph her routine for the last Masquerade before the studio closes! She even told me that it was nice to have someone advanced enough creatively to bounce ideas off of and the only other person she could do that with is Lizz (the other owner of the studio) but she is to busy for it! (I'll be posting pics soon!) (And, I accidentally missed the first 20 seconds of the routine :) )

I'm 3 inches shy of 10 feet ceilings!! But my pole, Dimitri James Steele, still looks pretty darn good in my living room. Which I've turned into my dance/workout room! I love it! Good luck to you if you come visit me cause I have no furniture save one big comfy reading chair! You'll be forced to play on the pole and probably fall in love with it! And yes, it spins!
A couple weeks ago Evan, Top Gun, Foxxy, Rina and I went to Octoberfest and I got a henna tattoo that everyone picked out for me and practically forced me to get!

Lucky for me, I didn't have to walk around with my butt hanging out for long. I got it right before we left! It's funny how I don't really care to much about that kind of stuff anymore since I've had my surgery!

Rina's is a wee bit classier than mine! LOL!!

Rina and her boyfriend, Sam, found this gem at Urban Outfitters! It's about how to start your own Unicorn farm! LOL!! I happen to be the founder of our unicorn pillow pet club that came about when Foxxy's boyfriend broke up with her and it was awful awful awful! So I bought pillow pets to spread some cheer! Anyways, so we just joke about unicorn everything these days! All I have to say is I hope you guys are excited for my halloween costume!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOL!!! ;)

So this is the first of 4 blog updates! I've been a total slacker on blogging this summer! Me doing Foxxy's hair for the photo shoot! We were so excited but then it turned into not so exciting!

We basically had our make up done, went to the salt flats, got lost trying to find the location, waited a couple, ran out of light, got eaten by moquitos, dead battery in the car... amongst other things, and didn't get our pictures taken! A slightly dramatic night to say the least but I wasn't feeling ready with my surgery and all plus I had gotten a mosquito bite under my eye and it was puffy! Done and done!

I've always wanted to swim in a pool of jello! It just sounds fun. So, Foxxy decided we should have one at her house warming party! She made 120lbs of jello and at first we were the only ones brave enough to dive right in! It was a little weird having a crowd of people standing there watching us and taking pictures instead of joining in on the fun!

SHOT IN THE DARK

For the past 2 months or so, my Soiree Sisters and I have been counting down the days for the FELIX CANE Workshop Weekend!! It finally arrived this weekend! Yay!

Felix started pole dancing 7 or 8 years ago. Her mother and younger sister were visiting her at Uni, (that's Aussie lingo for University! One of best friends is Australian & she taught me Aussie lingo when she stayed with me! That's right, I speak Australian! ha! ;) ), in Australia and were looking for something fun to do. Her mother saw an add for a pole dancing class and thought, Awesome! Felix was mortified that her mother took her 14 year old sister pole dancing and that her mom was cooler than her! Her mom told her that she would love it and to take the class. So, Felix went to sign up for the class just to prove her mom wrong & ended up having to sign up for an 8 week session because the special one day class her mom and sister took was only offered the previous week as a special!

Well, she fell in love with it after one class and she couldn't believe that her mother was right and that her mom was cooler than her!! Now Felix is the world champion and is about to start her 3 year adventure touring with the Zumanity Michael Jackson show (Cirque du Soleil).

That's the "Eagle" pose. Super hard! She did ballet for years but stopped because she was sick of the industry and how you had to be stick skinny to be a ballerina.

Last weekend one of my instructors, Rina, was at the pole convention in Florida and text us this picture of her and Felix! We were all pretty jealous because we wanted to be there! Next year...

Felix is one of the most adorable, humble, genuine, super funny, and awesome persons I've ever met. (which is rare for a celebrity). She came to my friends going away BBQ Friday night and hung out with us all night long! It was awesome! My favorite things about her is how passionate she is about pole. She does it because she loves it and not for any other reason. She found it at a time when she was weak and she thanks god (or whoever you believe is up there, those were her words!) for her talent and her blessings. She loves to share everything that she has learned because it would be selfish of her not to! She is so amazing and I can't wait for her to come back!! Love her!

... I am back to work at my map job. After my 2 year lay off they asked me to come back in March. I definitely went back and forth on if I wanted to or not. I kind of felt like I was moving backwards instead of forward & map making isn't exactly what I want to be doing with my life. But it also provides the money so that I can move in the direction I want to go! Plus I'm super spoiled with my flexible schedule there and they are big supporters of travel! "It's good for you to grow and learn about other people and places!" (that's what they say) So getting time off for all my adventures is usually not a problem! Right now I'm working on Annotation but I'm switching over to US Topo once I finish this forest. All that means is that I have to go to dippy meetings now because US Topo just plain sucks! My cubical is the size of my Element. I really need to decorate it one of these days!

... I am trying to decide what to do with all this vintage soda I bought! Ha!
I don't really drink a lot of soda. The bottles were cool and some of the names were funny.
... I am patiently waiting for Bloodlines to come out in August!!!! But I have The Paris Wife, Awakened, The Succubus series (5 books), Fallen, Unearthly, The Waves, By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept, and the list goes on ...to keep me busy til then! I love to read!

... I just bought my summer paint by number!!! It's a 3 pack of dolphins, horses and a dog!

... I am planning a trip to Australia, Cambodia and Laos in December!! Crossing my fingers that it all works out because you never know what's going to happen between now and then! I haven't been able to travel anywhere in the fall or winter for the past 5 years due to working for the Sundance Film Festival. I'm 87% sure I won't be working there this year due to my map job. At least I have trained my successor well and I know she'll do a fabulous job in my place ,better actually! Plus I'll still get to see whatever movies I want anyway!

... I love my Tuesday Pole Pal dinner nights with FOXXY (rachel), SHOCXY (shelly), RIXXY (rina), MOXXY (sara), NOELLE AND SYLVIA! (obviously i'm roxxy!) Sometimes others join us but that's the core group!, and pretty soon, we'll all be turned into mermaids on the June 25th top model photo shoot at the Salt Flats!!!!!!!!!! I'm pretty sure they're doing if for me because I really want a group mermaid shot! They are too good to me! Love them!!! (I had to put their names in caps because some of them feel special when I mention them in my blog!)

... I recently went food truck chasing with Moxxy and Foxxy! We had the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever!!!

... I am attempting to save my New Zealand purse I bought last April when I was there with purple duct tape! But.... when it gets warm the tape kind of gets sticky and it's peeling off parts of the bag! I'm not sure it if will make it the whole summer.

... I love spoiling my nieces Olivia and baby Rose! We love going to Orange Leaf frozen yogurt, watching iCarly, and Marlia (A Mermaids Tale)!! Olivia always says, "We're having a wild time aren't we?" or "'I can come pick you up from dance class!" Too cute! I'd spoil the other nieces and nephews if they lived here! but they don't! too bad for them!

... I am making good progress on my goals that I want to accomplish during my 30th year! I only have 3: One is to build up enough strength for my signature pole move! It's a bit crazy. I haven't seen anyone else actually do it so far & I just hope it doesn't rip my shoulders off, ahahahaha! Guess we'll find out! I'm about 13% there. My second is still kind of a secret for now but I promise it won't disappoint! At least Savvy and Britt will be happy once it's done since I've been working on it for the past 5 years and recently started over! And the last is... I'm getting my breast reduction!!!! Hopefully in July. I had my consult this week and I'm just waiting for my claim to the insurance company to process!

I know a lot of my gal pals have been struggling over the past couple months with everything from they way they look, boys, the fact that we're all turning 30 and not married, not being where they want to be, and life in general. I wish I could exclude myself from this but I can't.

Almost 2 weeks ago I was having a good day at work. I didn't have to start over on my project(yay!) and was counting down the minutes to pole class. I get to pole and everything changed when I got there. It turned into one of those days where I couldn't do anything. I hated being in class with all my Soiree Sisters and their perfect little bodies and amazing talent. All I could think of was, "What the hell am I doing here? I hate looking at myself in this dippy mirror in my tiny under armor shorts and tank top. It's the most uncomfortable 90 minutes I have to deal with everyday! Honestly, I'm not that good at this anyway. I might as well get my boob reduction now, take some time off, and have a crappy summer of recovery instead of waiting until the fall because Foxxy and I both know deep down that I'm really not going to dance in the recital in July no matter how much she wants me to and that's basically the only reason why I'm waiting and now I have a billion new bruises on my legs cause I was born with all this crappy strawberry skin and blah blah blah!".

It was a pretty intense internal struggle that lasted all night! Because, As fate would have it the Studio was hosting a "Ladies Night" at the Hotel Club and set up some portable poles there. Instead of having a super fun time will all my girls I sat in the corner being pissed off all night! HOLA.... FOR SHAME!!!!

I decided that I needed to take a week off pole to get out of this dark place. So, on one of my lunch breaks that week I decided to go jean shopping. Wow, BAD IDEA!!! Jean shopping blows! Who invented jeans anyway? They aren't that comfortable to wear. Long story short, it ended in disaster! My butt is too flat, thighs are way too chubby, and I'm too short! Lucky for me my Soiree Sisters were very helpful in recommending some brands that I might like. I'll probably attempt the whole jean shopping thing again this weekend! We shall see...

All of this kind of happened at a weird time. For the past few weeks I'd been thinking a lot about beauty. What is it? Who defines it? How do I become it? Why is it so important to be beautiful? I read a lot of different definitions of beauty and I didn't like any of them. I've decided it's one of those words, like LOVE or PERFECT, that means something different to everyone.

On that same day of my awful jean shopping, Rina posted this quote on her FB: "When a woman believes that she is beautiful the way she is, and that her worth is about what is inside her more than her looks, the cycle will be broken. Women are influenced by other women, mother to daughter, sister to sister, friend to friend. One woman can make the world of difference in her community." ~Stephanie Heart~

The next day, my Rina girl, posted this on FB too! She always post inspiring stuff and this one might be my favorite so far!

"I am in deep thought about beauty. REAL BEAUTY.I am once again stunned at how I may or may not see it in myself, in others, and in the world. Why is it so much easier to, when we choose, see it outside of ourselves and not from with in?? I am so blown away at this time of being bald and breastless. So wide open and vulnerable. It is teaching me about how many shields I carry,what I hide behind, and how much I want to have compassion for this external vehicle driving my Spirit. More importantly I want to recognize my TRUE SELF. I am not my hair, my breasts, my ass, my house, car, etc. Where and Why have we as a culture made this so damn important? It does not define us. WE are Spiritual Beings having many human experiences. I need and want to remember this. As I am faced with choices reconstruction...to be or not to be? Why? I pray to be happy just as I am, deep in my soul. No need to replace anything, or create another distraction or facade. 5-10 lbs won't make a difference, new boobs won't make a difference. Being compassionate with myself and others, seeing my light and loving it, witnessing your light and loving you, this is beauty. I want this for my daughters, sisters, sons, our men. I want to gift this real beauty to the world, so we can shine and continue to be in AWE of what God has given us, with an open beautiful heart! Thanks for witnessing." ~Wish I knew her name! Well, it was a humbling experience reading this and it was the perfect answer to what I had been thinking so much about. It's a good reminder to appreciate each other and what we bring to the world and to be okay with where we are in life. Even if you have bad days... have a bad day, dwell on it for a bit but get right back up! Foxxy always tells me I'm to hard on myself and it's true. It's something I'm working on! I am very grateful and blessed to have my family, friends and my Soiree Sisters in my life! Love you all so much!

THE ONE WHERE I TURN 30!!!!!

I'M THIRTY!!! I've been a grown up for almost a full 24 hours! HaHa! So, every year I make goals of what I want to accomplish that year. My 29th year was the year I was supposed to conquer all my fears. I did everything I had listed , save two. Which were: kill a spider with my bare hand (gross) and go sledding. Yep, totally okay with not doing either of those things! I only have a 3 goals for my 30th year but they are pretty big and require a lot of hard work and dedication that's for sure!

My birthday pretty much rocked the most because as fate would have it my buddy, Joshua Radin, played a gig in SLC yesterday on my birthday!! So, a bunch of my friends (10-15 of us) went to see him play.

Of course I was front and center! He kept looking down at me and smiling during the whole show. I over heard the girls next to me saying that he must like someone on this side because he keeps looking over there. My friend Lisa heard them and said ,"Yep, it's Rosie. They've been friends for 6 years." The girls literally freaked out and started asking me all these questions. Too funny! Half way through his set he was tuning his guitar and he looked at me and said, "Happy Birthday Rosie! Rosie is my first fan so everyone needs to wish her a Happy Birthday!" The girls next to me went crazy and wished me happy birthday. One even grabbed my arm! I should be used to this by now since he does this every show I go to but I always end up blushing like crazy! One of Lisa's friends was way in the back and overheard people saying that they thought I was his girlfriend!! Ha ha! I'll keep dreaming that he'll eventually be mine in the end!

With all the excitement I forgot to get a picture with him but I already have ten thousand of us together so it's okay! He gave me several birthday hugs and Allison was such a good friend to keep talking to the drummer so we could get passed all the security so we wouldn't get kicked out since we didn't have a wrist bands! Lisa had made cupcakes for everyone too! They were super good!

I survived another Sundance Festival!! I can't believe it was my fourth one! To crazy! Here's a little update on what I have been up to lately in no particular order!

The first week of January I did a 5 day DETOX!! Ugh, talk about awful! It's called RESET by USANA. It was a low glycemic detox. Everyday I had 3 protein shakes, 2 low glycemic protein bars, 1 serving of fruit and 1 serving of vegetables. Plus at least 64 oz of water. Very different from my regular diet of eggos, chocolate milk, mudslide cookies from Einsteins, Zupas salad, and Nuttella from the jar! It's supposed to reset your body so you don't crave sugars. What I learned was:

1. Detox is a fancy word for LAXATIVE!!! The second day was pretty bad and it got better after that but not the funnest thing ever when you have to go to work everyday! To make things worse, our sponsors provided us free lunch almost everyday that week and I couldn't eat it!

2. You are supposed to drink half your body weight in oz of water daily. More if you work out. Water was the most important thing with this detox. That was the hardest part for me. I wasn't used to drinking that much water.

3. My co-workers were very nervous about how not having sugar would affect my mood at work! I am pleased to say that I didn't not murder any of them!

4. You really can survive without sugar!

5. It's hard to change your eating habits but it can be done with hard work and dedication!

I survived the 5 days and yes, I still eat sugar but not as much as I used to! I make sure I get at least 64 oz of water a day! I notice a big difference when I don't drink enough water. I feel better during my work outs!

I see these words on the walls everyday at dance class. A simple reminder to appreciate all wonderful, gifts, and talents that I have been blessed with. Because at Studio Soiree the outside world doesn't matter and negative phrases like: "I can't..., "I'll never..., "I'm not...", don't exist and if you say them you get in trouble. It's a place that focuses on the beauty of women, our pure awesomeness, and embraces the fact that we are all different, special, and sexy in our own way.

My gal pals and I decided to do, "Find Yourself Fall". We each picked something that we've wanted to do but never did or were to lazy to do it. I started taking Pole Fitness classes in September. Mostly because I wanted to loose weight and I thought I'd be naturally good at because I was a gymnast. Turns out, I've gained 7lbs of muscle, I really had no clue what I was getting myself into, and I have some of the most amazing new friends a girl could ask for! The instructors and the girls at the studio really are fantastic people. Pole is so much harder than I ever thought possible but I love it and I'm getting stronger everyday. Someday all these bruises, raw skin, calloused hands, and icing my shoulder every night will all be worth it when I'm able to do , "The Beautiful Fang"!

Well, I'm a terrible blogger!!! I guess I should update you on what I did all summer. I basically went to a party every single night with my gal pals to try and find husbands.... didn't work but we have some good stories out of! I helped my brother film his thesis in West Yellowstone and it was amazing!! Went to Lake Powell and found out that I love Wake Skating and I'm good at it! If I get motivated maybe I'l post those pics but I also have thousands of New Zealand pics to edit... ugh! To much work!! Brittany, Ryan, and I went on a hike last month to some hot springs up Spanish Fork Canyon. It was amazing!!! The pictures aren't in any order because I'm to lazy to organize them!! We saw cows and snakes! Super cool!! I'm back at Sundance for year #4 and it is stressful but fun! I'll try to get motivated and update more!

My whole life I've always been told by everyone that I needed to become PERFECT , or I should be more like this person or that person and blah blah blah! Well, turns out I'm not like them. I hated the word perfect until one day , in my college years, I was reading, "Living, Loving and Learning" by Leo F. Buscaglia. He said, "The hardest thing in the world is to be something that you're not. How wondrous if we could accept the fact that we are our perfect self. That's so logical, isn't it? Who is a more perfect you than you? Only you can know what is the perfect you. And you are the only perfect you who will pass this way in the history of the world! Maybe others try to make it imperfect but we should do as E.E. Cummings recommends -- fight the battle of being "you" forever because it will always be the greatest battle you will ever have to fight, and it's the only battle worth fighting--". I never thought of it that and it makes complete sense! Become the perfect "you"! Brilliant!

October 1991 little Rosie Moncrief and little Jennie Ziegler convinced their parents that they were old enough to go to the movies by themselves! (Jennie and I are on the right, Cookie and Kelly are on the left.)

They told there parents they wanted to see some "G" rating movie but really they were going to their first PG-13 movie called "Paradise". They even snuck in their own sodas and snacks! Talk about rebels!! There was a little blue eyed boy in that movie that little Rosie fell completely in love with and.....
19 years later, she finally got to meet him in person!!!!! Rosie was helping with the movie premiere of, "The Romantics", and she already knew it was possible Mr. Wood might be there and Brendan, the Theatre Manager, had given her a 20 foot limit which was good enough for her! While Rosie was guarding the Entourage green room she got radioed down to the press line! When she walked outside there was Elijah Wood standing right in front of her!!!! Bryan replied," Elijah, this is Rosie and she'll escort you to your seat!". Rosie just about passed out but quickly pulled herself together because she had to be professional at work. His eyes were even more dreamy in person and he was so nice. (almost to nice). Rosie had 3 minutes to escort Elijah up 3 flights of stairs to his seat so the film could start on time so there wasn't much time to chit chat but she did grab his arm to steer him in the proper direction.
Here he is safely in his seat next to Fergie and Josh Duhamel.
Since Rosie was working and wasn't allowed to take pictures with him. Jan Schalla, a favorite Sundance Volunteer, sent her some so she'd have a good memory of this awesome day!

(The writer/director of the film, Adam Brody, Elijah Wood, 2 people I don't know, Katie Holmes (who is very nice.), and Malin Akerman (also very nice).

Yep, Best Day Ever!!!! It's so crazy to think that I actually met Elijah Wood! Dream come true!

Well, the V-Department came in 2nd place this year for our pumpkin! We set the bar pretty hight with our winning pumpkin from last year! But a master piece in itself!

Right now I am about to start reading, The Lovely Bones. I can't wait to see the movie when it comes out in December. I love Peter Jackson!

I am currently listening to Butterfly Bouchers new album, Scary Fragile, love her!
I saw "Where the Wild Things Are", and although I left the movie incredible depressed and pretty much cried myself to sleep. I really liked the colors scheme of the movie and there were some funny parts. Not really kid friendly FYI.

Hermina and Hazen, quite the good looking couple if you ask me...
fell in love and..
adopted two children, Marcia and Van, and lived happily ever after.

Hazen and Hermina White were my great aunt and uncle. Hazen passed away 8 yrs ago and Hermina recently passed away a couple weeks ago. Although we were sad to see her go she has been ready for along time. I'm sure she is having a blast in heaven reunited with her husband and my grandma and grandpa (her best friends)! We love and miss you.

We had a late start leaving Vancouver and almost missed our ferry to Friday Harbor but by a miracle the ferry was running 5 minutes late, (which they never do), and we made it just in time!

Today was the day that my hair started to get blonder and blonder from the sun! It currently now is out of control blonde... that darn sun is going to be the death of me......... blast.
